The Royal Shakespeare Company presents the world premiere of The Heresy of Love by Helen Edundson. Based on the life of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, the writer of House of Desires, The Heresy of Love is an exciting new play from an acclaimed writer and director.
In a convent in Mexico Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz struggles to balance her love for God with her desire to write and pursuer academia. Her writing is celebrated by the Court but her success brings jealousy and anger from the church. The Heresy of Love follows the troubles Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz encounters as she is persecuted and betrayed by those she though she could trust. Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz House of Desires was performed as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Spanish Golden Age season in 2004.
The Heresy of Love is directed by Nancy Meckler who has worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company on previous productions. It will show at the Swan Theatre from the 2 February to the 9 March 2012 as part of the RSC winter season.
