Hotel and Theatre Breaks for Noises Off
Here at theatre breaks we were over-joyed to welcome back Michael Frayn’s cracking comedy Noises Off telling the tale of the amatuer theatre company performing Nothing On.
It ran at the Old Vic, London until 10 March 2012, when it transfered to the Novello Theatre, London for a short run. This new production of Noises Off, directed by Lindsay Posner, was an irresistible, multi-award-winning backstage comedy.

Featuring an all star cast including Janie Dee, Robert Glenister, Jamie Glover, Celia Imrie and Amy Nuttall it has attracted excellent reviews from all quarters not a feat that all facres can claim to have achieved!
Winner of both Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Comedy, Noises Off follows the amateur touring production of a dreadful sex comedy Nothing On throughout the calamatous dress rehearsal (or should that be undress rehearsal – see what I did there: “Nothing On” – Undress Rehearsal?) on tour around the country.
As all great farces do, Noises Off hurtles along at an incredible pace, with the cast obviously thoroughly enjoying portraying the backstage antics of the touring theatre company as they stumble their way through rehearsals to a shambolic first night and a final disastrous performance complete with missed cues and forgotten lines. But it is not only on stage where the fun is to be had as Noises Off also portrays the company’s off-stage shenanigans and relationships: a double bill then of great fun and mayhem!

Hotel and Noises Off Theatre Breaks
When Noises Off is at the Old Vic Theatre which is on the Southbank of the river, although it is not far from the rest of the West End, the usual bunch of West End hotels that will put you on the doorstep of your chosen theatre are now a short journey away. Giving us a chance to explore a completely different set of hotels for our London theatre Break. Once it starts at the Novello the usual supsects can be considered – set your distance slider to 1.5 miles when you get to the hotel chosing part of booking your Noises Off Tickets and hotel Theatre Breaks – although those south of the river are still worth a look for weekend breaks.
The 3 star hotel The Mad Hatter is the most individual of the choices around Waterloo. A 19th century Milliner’s building, it has 30 individual rooms rather than hundreds of rooms that all look the same. You won’t be surprised to hear that it has its own traditional pub – from which it serves excellent food and drinks – rather than a run-of-the-mill hotel restaurant.
If you do want an excellent luxururious and contemporary 4 star hotel with spacious rooms, gym and sauna and spa facilities, then the rather uninspiringly named hotel H10 London Waterloo offers much more than its name would suggest.
Both of the hotels are well worth using even if your theatregoing takes you across the river, but if you are staying on the Southbank then they are perfect.
The only downside with going to the theatre on the Southbank and staying overnight in a Southbank hotel is that you have to look for an excuse to cross the river… but if you succeed, make sure you do so by foot and give yourslef time to enjoy the views both ways along the River Thames – what ever the time of day.
