Theatre Breaks News: Happy Birthday Shakespeare
It’s the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birth and this this year you can remember the greatest playwright of all time with a theatre break to see one of his many plays being produced by the RSC this summer at the World Shakespeare Festival.
Thousands of artists from around the world will take part in almost 70 productions, plus supporting events and exhibitions, right across the UK, including London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Newcastle/Gateshead, Birmingham, Wales and Scotland.
The Royal Shakespeare Company has joined forces with many international arts companies and the summer will see Shakespeare performed in many different languages starting with Trollius & Cressida in Maori on 23rd April at the Globe Theatre, London.
As well as the originally English text, plays have been translated into Russian, Portuguese, Spanish and Arabic to name but a few.
I’ve already booked tickets to see The Tempest at the newly refurbished Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford with my children… what’s your choice and who in your family will you introduce to the greatest playwright that has ever lived??
