Welcome to our Lille Breaks page

W5999

In 2004 its year as Europe's City of Culture, Lille hosted more than 2000 events. Its nine million visitors relished a real cultural feast at a European crossroads just 1 hour and 40 minutes from London.

Besides its colourful Flemish architecture and narrow ornamented facades, Lille has a rich and varied heritage. The Fine Arts Museum is the 2nd greatest in France after the Louvre. The Boulogne Woods, the largest park in the city with 50 hectares, boast a 17th Century Citadel which has been perfectly preserved.

Culture is not the only feast on offer. Vibrant markets, delicious regional food and drink specialities are all to be relished too.

When are you coming to visit ? We warmly await you !

a few things to know...

Theatrically speaking Lille has never been a better place to visit. A recently re-opened Opera House plays host to Don Giovanni and Madame Butterfly, whilst Le Theatre du Nord welcomes Othello, Anthony and Cleopatra.

Charles de Gaulle was born here so visit his home, transformed into a museum and housing, amongst other items his bullet riddled 2CV - I think it's just rust!

Eating in Lille is not like eating in any other French town: it's flemmish history infuses its culinary nature to create a fascinating combination.

Take the tube - it's fully automated: doors, drivers, announcements... only your fellow travellers are human.

The Lilloise take the best from France and Belgium when they create their bars, making the experience a memorable one that is, sadly, too often forgotten.

Old Lille includes cobbled streets, restaurants, bars, squares, an opera house and lovely shops. New Lille includes a building called The Boot

Clubs provide a rich variety of music, with jazz being especially popular however the more modern clubs playing dance, house and soul are also in abundance.

Travelling by Eurostar through Good to See

The smoothest journey at up to 180 mph into the very heart of the city, no queues at check-in, and no wait at baggage reclaim - for comfort, ease and speed of travel, Eurostar is superb. Add views of the countryside - English, French and Belgian - and it becomes difficult to see why anyone would wish to travel any other way.

From London, Lille is under 2 hours away; Paris and Brussels under 3 hours.

Check in only 30 minutes before departure from London Waterloo or Ashford, Kent, and choose from three classes of service:

1. Standard - comfortable seats, and the opportunity to stretch your legs en route to the buffet and bar.

2. Leisure Select - pamper yourself with larger reclining seats, magazines, at-seat power sockets and full at-seat wining and dining service, all included in the price. Go on, you deserve a glass of champagne.

3. Business Premier - check in only 10 minutes before departure and enjoy the facilities of the dedicated Business Premier lounge. Be fast-tracked through security if travelling from London Waterloo, then settle down with your laptop using the power point at your seat. Take a break with the full at-seat wining and dining service, not forgetting that complimentary champagne. If in a hurry, take advantage of the express breakfast service.

Booking for Eurostar opens 90 days prior to departure but we are happy to advise on likely times and prices in the meantime.

To process your Eurostar journey we shall need to know:

  • Departure and destination points eg London Waterloo to Paris

  • Date of outward and return journeys
  • Preferred travel times (these can be approximate eg mid-afternoon)
  • The number of seats required
  • The ages of those travelling (under 4s travel free, and there are special fares for children of 4-11 years, youths and seniors)
  • The names of those travelling (with correct spellings as tickets will be checked against your passports)

Once booking has opened, we shall hold seats on a provisional basis to enable us to quote final times and prices to you. If you are happy to proceed, we shall then require payment to confirm your booking. Once your booking is confirmed, we shall send your tickets to you in good time for your journey.

If you are travelling further afield we shall be happy to add TGV tickets to your booking.
