Featured City - Edinburgh

Built on the remains of a volcano, Edinburgh Castle provides a stunning skyline for Scotland’s capital city, in which history and modernity sit side by side. Travel back in time to the room where Mary Queen of

Scots gave birth to James I of England. Travel back still further and experience earthquakes and tropical storms with a visit to Our Dynamic Earth, a tented amphitheatre that charts the evolution of Earth from its early beginnings. Work up an appetite with a stroll to Arthur’s Seat then bring yourself back to the present with lunch and retail therapy along Princes Street, world famous for its shops.

The Arts – Edinburgh has seven regular venues offering plays, musicals, opera and dance. During the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival (see below), the Fringe halls, schools and even the streets are brought into service too in a vibrant celebration of the performing arts.

Forthcoming productions include Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuse, and Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story.
