Student
Organised Trips?
OK it sounds like
a nightmare but what better way to get the students interested in the
trip and your subject as a whole.
And with Good
To See's Crib Sheet a student organised trip could be your most
successful yet.
Tell your students
to use the check list below and get in touch with us. We will help
them work their way through the process whilst keeping you informed.
What information
do you need before you ring Good to See ?
-
Where are you
going and for how long?
-
Discuss the
purpose of your trip and list what experience you want to get out of
the visit.
-
Choose a date
and have a second choice in mind in case there is no availability of
accommodation if an overnight tour
-
Discuss type of
transport! think about the practicalities of taking a large group ie
over 40 by train? Maybe a coach will be more favourable.
-
Approximate
times you need to arrive at your destination and depart on the return.
-
Approximate
numbers of students and teachers. What is the accepted ratio of
students : teachers?
-
Approximate
budget discuss with teacher i.e type of accommodation budget ie
hostel, B & B or economy hotel.
-
What sort of
activities and venues do you want to include?
-
Now ring Good
to See and get that trip in motion.
What a doddle is
that all there is too it? That was the fun bit !
Now for the
serious stuff, without safety measures put in place and proper
planning your trip will not be authorised to go ahead,
-
A risk
assessment is one of the necessary tasks a trip organiser has to do
in order to go ahead with your trip? Think about the hazards and
risks for travel, your accommodation and all the activities and
venues you intend to include, make a plan to avoid them? Do you need
professional advice?
-
Think about the
travel arrangements, have you planned food and rest stops
-
Think about an
emergency procedure should things go wrong. Ie Do you have a first
aid box? Is there a first aider among the group? Don't forget
relevant phone numbers and other contact details
But don't worry -
your school will have the relevent forms to guide you through this bit:
ask your teacher.
But don't let that
limit you - we bet that you can think of some better ways to over
come the challenges of organising a trip: for example, I bet they
haven't though of texting as a great way to keep in touch before and
during the trip:
Have fun and do
remember to ask Good To See at any point for help and ideas |
