World-famous venue Ronnie Scotts is the centre of the British Jazz scene. Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Coleman Hawkins, Chet Baker, Ben Webster, Ornette Coleman, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Sarah Vaughan, Buddy Rich, Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine are but a few of the greats to have played there. To begin with, the plan was simply to provide a place where British jazz musicians could jam. Pete and Ronnie quickly developed a reputation of bringing the best of British modern jazz musicians to the club. Soon, they would persuade the American federation of musicians to lift the blanket ban on American performers in the U.K., paving the way for many legendary performances. In 1965, Ronnie Scotts moved to its current location in Frith Street, only a short walk from the ‘old place’. In the booking schedule there has always been space left for artists such as Tom Waits, Linda Lewis, Elkie Brooks, Eric Burdon, Paul Rodgers, Jack Bruce and recently the Notting Hillbillies, featuring Mark Knopfler. Acts not exactly within the jazz field but nevertheless part of the unique "atmosphere" of the club that has always been so important. The mix is eclectic to say the least. One thing you can be sure of is quality, whether you go to the late or the early show, eat-in listening to the wonderful house band, or eat at one of the many great restaurants surrounding the venue – you’re sure to have a great evening. Tucked away in our booking process is this little gem. Select London for Less, pick a date (Monday to Friday) and select Robnnie Scotts – what a great midweek break. Opened: 30/10/1959 |
