Theatre Breaks News : Number Ones in the West End

This week I have mostly been compliling a list of recording artists that have had Number One records in the UK charts who are now appearing in West End musicals and all bookable through TheatreBreaks.com. Here's what I've come up with... can you think of any more?

Name : Marti Pellow
Group/Solo: Wet, Wet, Wet
UK Number One(s) : With a Little Help from My Friends, Goodnight Girl, Love is All Around
Appearing in :
Blood Brothers
Role : The Narrator
Credentials : He's had his problems with drink & drugs in the past, but he can still belt out a great tune and he's still pretty easy on the eye (ladies!). The Narrator plays a pivitol role as Blood Brothers, the tragic story of twins seperated at birth, unfolds on stage. Marti is no stranger to the stage having just finished a UK tour of Jekel & Hyde plus stints as Billy Flynn in Chicago, touring with Witches of Eastwick and appearing in Chess in Concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
Marti  performs in Blood Brothers until 3rd March 2012.

Name :
Jon Lee
Group/Solo: S Club 7
UK Number One(s) : Bring It All Back, Never Had a Dream Come True, Don't Stop Movin',
Have You Ever?
Appearing in : Jersey Boys
Role : Alternate Frankie Valli
Credentials : Jon is probably best known as part of pop-sensation S Club 7, although he did actually start his professional career at a young age in theatre playing the lead role alongside Jonathan Pryce's Fagin in Oliver. He has also appeared in Aladdin and as Marius in Les Miserables. Jon is now singing his heart out in Jersey Boys as instantly recognisable Frankie Valli lead singer with The Four Seasons. This spectacular musical tells the story of the phenominal rise of the sixties group and reminds you of all the fantastic songs they recorded.

Name :
Kimberley Walsh
Group/Solo: Girls Aloud
UK Number One(s) : Sound of the Undergroud, I Stand by You, Walk This Way, The Promise
Appearing in : Shrek the Musical
Role : Princess Fiona
Credentials : Kimberely took over the role of Princess Fiona from Amanda Holden in Shrek and appears as the Princess with a secret until 27th February 2012. She cut her 'acting' teeth in the live-action 3D family comedy film Horrid Henry: The Movie as Prissy Polly.

Name :
Darius Campbell
Group/Solo: Solo artist
UK Number One(s) : Colourblind
Appearing in : Chicago
Role : Billy Flynn
Credentials: The lovely (I know coz I've met him & he really IS lovely) Darius Danesh (as he was then) first came under public scrutiny on first of the tv talent shows BBC's Popstars (who can forget his over-the-top version of Hit Me Baby...?), but by the time Darius came 3rd in ITV's rival talent show Pop Idol, I think we had all secretly fallen in love with his voice. After 2 studio albums (his first going platinum), Darius moved onto theatre and became the youngest actor to play the slick moving, fast talking, wise cracking lawyer Billy Flynn (aged 25) in the musical Chicago. He then went on to star in Guys & Dolls before taking on the role of Rhett Butler in Trevor Nunn's stunning production of Gone with the Wind (very under-rated show in my opinion). After taking his mother's maiden name, Campbell, in Jan 2010, later that year he was back on tv as the eventual winner of the first series of Popstar to Operastar and this Autumn he returned to the West End re-creating the role of Billy Flynn for the re-vamped Chicago at the Garrick theatre.

Name : Shayne Ward
Group/Solo: Solo artist
UK Number One(s) : That's My Goal
Appearing in : Rock of Ages
Role : Stacy Jaxx
Credentials: Of course best known as the winner of the second series of X Factor in 2005, Shayne Ward has notched up 2 platinum selling albums since then. The West End "rock-athon" Rock of Ages is his first forray into the world of professional musical theatre and he plays a slimey 80s rocker on the slippery slope downwards from super-stardom to drunken donkey lover! (When you see the show you'll understand). I can quite honestly say that Shayne's singing voice is fantastic and his redition of Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive is absolutely terrific. Plus, even with a blonde wig he is pretty "fanciable"!

So, that's my list... I think I have covered all current artists, but if you know of anymore either in the West End or touring in musicals around the country... let me know!
