Theatre News : October
It's all go in the West End this Autumn and Winter with many long-running shows closing but being replaced by some fantastic "new-comers". For the next few months you will be spoilt for choice over just which musical or play you want to book!
Following the closure of Dirty Dancing (now on UK tour) Cool Hand Luke is previewing at the Aldwych Theatre and has it's official Opening Night tonight (3rd October). Marc Warren takes on the pivitol lead role made famous by Paul Newman.
Another film adaptation is Driving Miss Daisy currently previewing at Wyndhams Theatre starring Vanessa Redgrave and the gravelled voiced James Earl Jones. Opening night is just a few days away on Wednesday 5th October.
Waiting in the wings to start its previews is the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre transfer of Crazy for You coming to the Novello Theatre from 8th October. The original "outdoor" cast travel with the show and as they claimed many an outstanding review from the press during the summer run, this show is bound to here for the long term.
Closing to make way for what is bound to be the "musical event of the year" is Priscilla at the Palace Theatre on 31st December. However, the boards will not be able to rest for long after all the high-heels it's endured over the last 3 years and hot on its tail will be a concofony of tap shoes to lift all our Winter spirits with the uplifting production of Singin' in the Rain which previews from 15th February.
So, there really no need to be holed up in front of the fire in the coming months, visit London's West End for some truly amazing theatre experiences!
