What Family Shows are in London?
Matilda
Also adapted from a Roald Dahl book is Matilda: The Musical, the story of a young girl with amazing powers. The quality of the production is evident by the record breaking number of Olivier Awards it received in 2012 and the packed houses it continues to play to at the Cambridge Theatre.
Disney’s The Lion King
Disney’s The Lion King musical – the stage adaptation of the much-loved Disney story – has long been a popular family choice for theatre breaks in London, playing to the 2000-seat capacity Lyceum Theatre since 1999.
Travel to the African plains of the Serengeti and follow the story of Simba, the young lion prince, who embarks on an epic journey to become King of the Pride Lands. The Lion King also features an Oscar-winning song, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Wicked
The London Victoria Theatre is home to Wicked, where it has played to packed audiences since 2006, winning an Olivier award in 2010 for the most popular show.
Its songs tell of the adventures of two different girls and their journey and adventure in the mysterious Land of Oz. After they meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz their friendship – and lives – take different paths, as they head towards their destinies as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda The Good.

Family Theatre Breaks Accommodation
Family theatre breaks in the capital can be enjoyed all year round. Accommodation comes in at every price and star rating. Many of our hotels give discounts for children sharing their parent’s room and often the price for the whol family is a lot less than the price quoted per adult on our hotel pages. So do make sure you carry through your reservation request to the confirmation page to get the proper discounted price for your family.
One hotel I always recommend is the Holiday Inn Kings Cross Bloomsbury. With excellent facilities and double double rooms perfect for a family of four it is also halfway between Theatreland and Kings Cross and St Pancras railway stations so it is really handy for families coming down from the north.
When you’re not at the theatre enjoying your show there are plenty of other attractions to see in London, undoubtedly one of the world’s great capital cities.
