Theatre Breaks for The Sound of Music in Edinburgh
One of the greatest musicals of all time returns to the stage in a magnificent new production to enchant and enthral the young and the young at heart.
Danielle Hope stars in this family show based on Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography telling the true story of the world-famous singing family, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness, to their thrilling escape to freedom as their beloved Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of WWII.
Hope, who won the TV talent show Over the Rainbow – the prize being starring as Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s re-vamped The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium in 2011 – will don the novice nun’s habit and run over the hills when the show opens at the Edinburgh Playhouse in January 2016.
Since shooting to stardom four years ago, Hope has appeared in Les Miserables at the Queens theatre, London and as the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the 2014 UK tour.
The unforgettable score features some of the most memorable songs ever performed on stage, including ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favorite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, and of course, the title song – ‘The Sound of Music’.
