Winner of 9 prestigious Tonys at the 2016 awards ceremony in New York, the record-breaking Broadway musical, Hamilton, will open at the newly renovated Victoria Palace in October 2017.
Creator and starring in the Broadway production, award winning Lin-Manuel Miranda is flying high in the West End after his other brain-child In The Heights triumphed at this year’s Oliviers in London.
Producer of the Hamilton’s London production, musical maestro Cameron Mackintosh, described the show as ‘one of the most brilliant, original and entertaining musicals I have ever seen.’
With ladies in long skirts and men in breeches, historical Hamilton recounts the story of one of America’s “forgotten” Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who fought alongside George Washington in the Revolutionary War and went on to become America’s first Treasury Secretary; forging the country’s financial system.
As with Miranda’s current West Ed hit, In The Heights, Hamilton features a blend of modern musical styles which includes rap, R&B and hip-hop plus award winning choreography from Andy Blakenbluehler. On Broadway the show has broken box office records and can count one President Barack Obama in its phenomenal fan base.
