Olivier & Tony Award-winning show,  Memphis,  is enjoying a hugely successful run at the Shaftesbury Theatre and we are now booking Memphis Theatre Breaks till 31 October 2015.

Starring British “Queen of Soul” Beverley Knight (The Bodyguard)  the show that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing and irresistible songs, has received rave reviews from critics and Memphis Theatre Breaks guests alike.

“Roof-raising! Beverley Knight excels in Memphis, a thrilling musical set in Segregation-era America.” Daily Telegraph

“Hold onto your hats – Bev’s a real belter.” Daily Mail

In 1950s America Felicia Farrell (Knight), a black soul singer in the Deep South, is trying to get further than the underground bars that she is forced to sing in by the strict segregation laws in force in Memphis, Tennessee.

She then meets a radio DJ Huey Calhoun (2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle) who wants to play soul music on his radio show. Together they collaborate to try and break down the walls that ignorance and fear have built up so strongly. The character of Calhoun is loosely based on real life Memphis disc jockey Dewey Phillips

On Broadway, Memphis ran for three years and won four Tony Awards (Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Music and Best Orchestration) and four Drama Desk Awards (Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Actress in a Musical, Outstanding Music and Outstanding Orchestration).

Miss Knight will continue in her role as Felicia until 17th October 2015, but is not scheduled to perform at Monday evening or Wednesday matinee performances and on these dates : 17th – 18th July 2015.

The Producers of Memphis cannot guarantee the appearance of any particular artist, which is always subject to illness and holidays.

Seen Memphis twice now and it was brilliant both times! Killian Donnely makes the show for me - he plays the part brilliantly. Beverley Knight sings like an angel!

Hi

I just wanted to tell you how good Memphis is. I saw it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beverley Knight is amazing, even better than she was in The Bodyguard and Killian Donnelly is even better than he was in The Commitments, so all round it is a resounding success.

The music is wonderful and all in all, if you are planning to come to the West End this winter, it is the perfect highlight to a London theatre break, especially if, like me you like your soul music. The original music is just as good as any of the classic songs that we have all grown up with.

The story is sophisticated too. This is not a juke box musical but a great piece of theatrical storytelling that tackles the issues of race that were rife in 1950’s Memphis.

I booked online and came down for a shopping trip before Christmas staying at the excellent Holiday Inn Kings Cross. The whole lot - tickets and accommodation - was just less that £120 pp - I could have done 4 star for cheaper but the other 4 star hotels were quite some way away from Theatreland, so beware!

I've seen three shows this year and this beats ALL OF THEM. Beverely Knight was awesome, what a singer and Killian was wonderful - what an actor - and the whole cast were brilliant - dancers singers, musicians everybody! A Whole lot of Soul!
