Theatrebreaks.com says You have to hear it to believe it! The two lead actors have the most amazing voices EVER and you will not be able to leave the theatre without a huge smile stretched upon your face.
It stars British Queen of Soul Beverley Knight, who only recently made her West End debut in The Bodyguard at the Adelphi Theatre, and 2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle.
Miss Knight plays Felicia, a soul singer, who is trying to get further than the underground bars that she is forced to sing in by the strict laws of segregation in force in Memphis Tennessee. But her life changes completely when she meets – and falls in love with – Huey (Cardle), a local radio DJ who wants to play black soul music and together they collaborate to try and break down the walls that ignorance and fear have built up so strongly.
Having won four Tony Awards and four Drama Desk Awards during its 3 years on Broadway, Memphis now adds two Olivier Awards to its accolades picking up gongs in the Best Theatre Choreographer category and also for Sound Design.
Beverley Knight will continue in her role as Felicia until 17th October 2015, and will now be performing on the following Monday nights: 6, 13 & 27th July; and
10, 17, 24th & 31st August 2015. She will not be performing on the following dates:
17-18th July; 3-5th August; 8th, 15 – 24th and 28th September; and 2nd October 2015.
Excluding the dates above, Ms Knight is not scheduled to perform on Monday evening and Wednesday matinee performances.
Mr Cardle is not scheduled to perform at Wednesday matinee performances.
