The 2017 Spring/Summer season at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon opens dramatically with the Angus Jackson directed Shakespearean epic Julius Caesar.

A political tragedy set in Rome, an all-conquering Caesar returns from war, but in the city he left behind he finds mutiny rumbling through the corridors of power as the race to claim the empire spirals out of control.

Believed to have been written by Shakespeare in 1599, there have been many stage with some of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s past productions seeing John Nettles and Hugh Quarshire, in 1995, playing the leading roles of Brutus and Mark Antony and, more recently in 2012 Pattison Joseph took on the role of Brutus in an African-set production.
